Heart Strings...
Here's some songs that have recently been pulling at my heart strings, and my favorite lines from said songs:
1. Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley.
"Your faith was strong but you needed proof, you saw her bathing on the roof, her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you. She tied you to her kitchen chair, she broke your throne and she cut your hair and from your lips she drew the hallelujah."
"I've seen your flag on the marble arch, and love is not a victory march, it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah."
"Remember when I moved in you, and the holy dove was moving too, and every breath we drew was hallelujah."
"It's not a cry that you hear at night, and it's not somebody who's seen the light, it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah."
2. Braille - Regina Spektor
" And it was raining cats and dogs out side of her window, and she knew they were destined to become sacred road kill on the way, and she was listening to the sound of heavens shaking
thinking about puddles, puddles and mistakes."
3. Samson - Regina Spektor
"You are my sweetest downfall. I loved you first. I loved you first."
4. On the Radio - Regina Spektor
"This is how it works: you're young until you're not, you love until you don't, you try until you can't, you laugh until you cry, you cry until you laugh, and everyone must breathe until their dying breath. Oh, this is how it works, you peer inside yourself, you take the things you like, then try to love the things you took, and then you take that love you made and stick it into some, someone else's heart, pumping someone else's blood."
5. Winter - Joshua Radin
"I remember the sound, of your November downtown. And I remember the truth of a warm December with you. But I don't have to make this mistake. And I don't have to stay this way. If only I would wait."
6. Let Go - Frou Frou
"Drink up, baby down, are you in or are you out. Leave your things behind, because it's all going off without you. Excuse me, too busy you're writing your tragedy. These mishaps, your bubble wrap, when you've no idea what you're like."
7. Hide and Seek - Imogen Heap
"Oily marks appear on walls, where pleasure moments hung before the takeover, the sweeping insensitivity of this still life."
8. Can't Slow Down - Brett Dennen
"I'll kiss you once, baby, I'll kiss you twice, but I can't kiss you for the rest of your life. Because I'm not fit to be the man that makes you a wife."
9. The General - Dispatch
"Take a shower and shine your shoes, you've got no time to lose, you're young men, you must be living."
10. Sunday Morning - Howie Day
"If only you were here right now, you'd tell me: Wouldn't it be something if everything changed. Wouldn't I be something in your way. And wouldn't it be more than living in your wake, if you and I would ever cease to be?"
11. All I Need - Matt Kearney
"If nothing is safe then I don't understand. You call me a boy, but I'm trying to be the man. One more day and it's all slipping with the sand. You touch my lips and grab the back of my hand."
"I guess we both know we're in over our heads. We've got nowhere to go and no home that's left. The water is rising on a river turning red. It all might be okay, or we might be dead. If everything we've got is slipping away, I meant what I said when I said until my dying day. I'm holding onto you, holding onto me, maybe it's all gone black but you're all I need."
12. Paperweight - Joshua Radin
"Been up all night, staring at you, wondering what's on your mind. I've been this way with so many before, but this feels like the first time."
"Every word you say, I think I should write down. I don't want to forget, come daylight. Happy to lay here, just happy to be here, I'm happy to know you. Play me a song, your newest one, please leave your taste on my tongue."
