Cotton Candy... In the rain
Well, yesterday was another JCHS home football game. About halfway through the day, Becky called and asked if I would help her and a couple of my friends make cotton candy. Sounded harmless enough. (Becky, you still owe me 35 cents for picking up Amelia!!!). So, I get there at 4, and Becky realizes she forgot Amelia. Ok... I'll go pick her up.
When I get back, Becky says, would you like to go pick up some sugar at the store? Geesh... no. I'm good.
So, while Becky was gone, I sat around for a bit while Leslie, Meghan, and Amelia taped up cardboard boxes, and hung the bags up. I enjoyed watching them.
Becky returned. "Sugar!!!" I said, "Wait... I wasn't saying sugar like, calling you sugar, I was just stating that you had sugar..." Ah screw it.
During the time between Becky got back and we actually started, there was this little kitty that was roaming around where we were. Meghan, Amelia, and Leslie were totally enthralled with the cat, if I do say so myself. So, they ended up paying more attention to the cat than to what we were actually doing.
So, we started the machine and began to pull the cotton candy and put it in bags. All the while, it's getting more and more humid outside. Yeah, it's gonna rain.
So, when we thought we were done bagging 40 bags of this wonderful sugary delight, we shut off the machine and started cleaning up. To our suprise, we only ended up with 38 bags. By this time it's started to rain, harder and harder by the second. We had already put the machine away, but wait!!! We had to get it back out and make a few more bags.
This was quite the process, considering that it was wet outside, and we all know what happens to cotton candy when it gets wet. Well, apart from that unfortunate event, the kitty eventually warmed up to me, which made me happy. So we cleaned up and ran out to our cars in the pouring rain, and drove to the high school to drop off the cotton candy for Tiger Club to sell at the game. This was at 5:30.
After we were done dropping the cotton candy off, and standing in the rain for a minute or two, I drove off to Becca's house to get a little bit of something to eat before the game, then to Safeway to stand in line for 5 minutes just to buy a rose and a card for Becca. She turned 18 yesterday.
While I was in the store, decked out in my JCHS football uniform from my temporary boyfriend, Frank, I ran into Sabrina. We talked for a second. I also got in a conversation with the guy in front of me, who was this short little hispanic man. He asked me who I was getting the rose for. I told him it was for my friend who was turning 18. Hey, at least it passed the time.
So, after gettting through the line at Safeway, I headed off to the game. It was still raining when I got there. I found Becca and gave her the rose, wished her good luck for singing the National Anthem, and went to talk to Frank Taylor. He got me a hamburger because I didn't really have any money, and I hadn't really had dinner. It was a yummy hamburger.
Our football team did pretty the first quarter. I had already come close enough to losing my voice by halftime. Things were looking pretty good, so I got up to walk around at halftime so that I didn't end up freezing my ass off. It was still raining.
So, when all was said and done, we ended up losing the game because we turned the ball over so many times in the second half. Oh well. Better luck next time I suppose. After the game I went to DQ, eager to get into my warm bed upon arriving home.
All in all, it was a pleasant evening. And although we didn't win, we still had a great time at the game, and of course, and excellent time making cotton candy in the rain.
