September 11th
Today is the 4 year anniversary of the Sept. 11th World Trade Center attacks. On this day, 4 years ago, approximately 3,000 people lost their lives because the terrorists behind these attacks wanted to weaken America. Four years ago, America changed forever.
As a 13 year old, I woke up to a new, and frightening reality. By the time I was awake, both of the towers had been hit. My dad called and told us to watch the television. When I saw the image of the smoking tower, I couldn't believe my eyes. I remember thinking, even as young as I was, that a lot of people were going to die that day. Before the time we left for school, both of the towers had collapsed, and I felt completely helpless. The rest of the day was a blur. Between watching the news in my classes and seeing the aftermath unfold, the gravity of the situation hit like a ton of bricks.
In the aftermath of September 11th, America banded together in support of families of victims in the attacks. Our heartbroken country became a stronger one. Last year I bought the video that abc showed following the attacks. I wanted to have this piece of history, as horrific as it was, I wanted to be able to look back and remember.
Now, on the 4 year anniversary of the attacks, let us not forget to remember the people that lost their lives that day. Let us not forget the bravery and heroism of the many firefighters, police officers, and rescue workers that gave their lives to save others. Let us not forget what a wonderful country we live in. Take time to remember, and be thankful for what you have.
