Excerpt

I just got Anita Liberty's book: "How to heal the hurt by hating," today. It's hilarious, so I think I will share a short excerpt with you.

A visit to the Gynecologist

At the gynexologist's office
fearing the inevitable...
questions.
"Are you still with the same boyfriend?"
"No."
"Do you have a new boyfriend?"
"No."
"Have you been sexually active since your last visit?"
"Um, yes."
"With more than one partner?"
"Oh, you mean, secually active with a partner?
Well, then, no. I guess I haven't been sexually active
since my last visit."
And then no more words are exchanged.
The facts are recorded on my chart.
Name: Anita Liberty
Weight: 100 pounds.
Date of last period: The 5th
Status: Alone. Not getting any.
Hasn't in a long time.
And so I stare up at the fluorescent light
on my doctor's ceiling,
as she makes idle chit-chat.
She's up to her elbow in me
and my mind tells my body,
"No, Mitchell's not back.
This is Dr. Harris,
and she hasn't got time for what you want.
Got it?"
But Dr. Harris does tell me I have a beautiful vagina
and I will hold onto that compliment for days as a
shipwrecked survivor
clings
to
a piece
of driftwood.
