Maya Angelou
This is Maya Angelou. She is an African American poet and memoirist. Why bring her up, you may ask? Well... I was in Safeway tonight, and saw this tall black woman over at the deli, and she reminded me of Maya Angelou. Now, to be honest with you, I haven't read much of her poetry, and what I have read, I don't remember. But I went to see her at the University of Oregon when I was a freshman.
I just have this vivid memory in my head of this short, age-bent black woman standing at the front of a packed stadium saying "Child, it may be raining, but there's a rainbow shining through."
From that point on, I loved Maya Angelou. Don't ask me why, but when she said those words, I couldn't help but feel like she was talking directly to me. It sounds odd, I know, but that's how I felt.
I must say, and if I sound racist in this I apologize, I don't mean to sound racist, but I love black women. Especially older black women. Like grandma age. They just give me such a warm feeling in my heart. Like, they are the opitome of what a grandma should be. Kind, caring, warm hearted, being pleasantly plump helps too.
Here's to Maya Angelou. I tip my hat to you.
