Talent Scouts
Today was my meeting with the talent scout. The day began like any normal day, except for the fact that I was exceptionally tired for no apparent reason. I got up, took a shower, went to school, bought my Mountain Dew and headed to first period. First period, sad to say, was dreadfully boring today. Half of the time I was in a daze, and the other half I was wishing I was sleeping. All kidding aside though, I really did want to sleep.
Later on in the day I had my usual lunch: Chili with cheddar cheese, onions, and sour cream. It proved to be exceptionally good today because I tried it with sour cream. Yada yada yada. The day went on fairly normally until the end of fifth period when we all went to the gym like a herd of cattle for the pep assembly.
This is when I started to become nervous. To curb my nervousness, I wandered around the gym for a while, waiting for the assembly to start, said hi to a couple of people, and generally kept myself occupied. The assembly wasn't really anything to talk about. It was quite dull to tell you the truth.
After the assembly, I think my pulse shot up about 20 beats per minute and I really started to get nervous. I got a couple of "good luck's" from friends and teachers as I headed home. By this time I was a mess. I just wanted to crawl in a corner, but the fighter in my told me to keep going. One foot in front of the other.
We left my house at about 3:30, with me nervously checking the clock and asking if we were going to get there on time. It was just hectic. I don't think there's really any other way to describe it.
So, we finally reached to studio, which happens to be in Elmira, and although my nerves were raging, I tried to stay calm and confident. I wanted to make a good first impression on the guy who owned the studio. Thank you, Mr. Schneider, for teaching me to give a good firm handshake at any interview, advice well taken.
Turns out, the guy who owns the studio is Hendo's cousin, Neil Henderson, and apparently, he's gone all around the country with his music. Well, nervousness aside, I played my first song for him: Just Letting You Know.
It's a good thing I played this one first, because he was totally sold by the end of it. He really liked the song and thought it had lots of potential. So, on to song number 2: Dream On, which I played at the talent show this year. Although he didn't like this one quite as much, he still thought I had potential.
When the interview was said and done, he asked me to come back to the studio next Tuesday to work on those two songs. So, I went home, and got ready for the volleyball game, but first, I had to give Becca a call. So, I woke Becca up, and in the middle of talking with her, my talent scout called back and told me that Neil doesn't really just give away his studio time, so the fact that he did meant that he was really impressed. So cool!
So, I'm really looking forward to cutting my first 2 tracks EVER on Tuesday of next week.
Wish me luck!
